The long decade is finally coming to a close. A lot of things have happened in 2019, and I personally feel like I have accomplished a lot in that time. With 2020 right around the corner, I’ve started setting some goals for next year.
Recently I’ve started getting into game development, and I found it to be a way to create fun side projects for myself. In 2020, I plan to continue this path and dive deeper into game development, and even publish a few games. My goals for game development are:
- Publish a fully production-ready multiplayer 2D game
- I have some ideas for a game, but I won’t spoil them yet 🙂
- Participate in some game jams and create games in a short period of time.
I don’t quite think that game development will be a future career choice of mine, so obviously I won’t be devoting all of my resources towards this. I merely plan to keep the game design as a side-task, mostly for fun and to practice skills. Of course, if one of my games becomes extremely successful, I may consider a more commercial route, but this kind of success rarely happens to indie game developers.
As for computer programming, my goal is to become proficient in Java 10, 11, and 12 concepts. I also need to start writing clean, structured code if I am going to pursue a career in this field. I plan to study Android app development and create useful apps and publish them in the play store.
I also believe that I need to start studying another programming language. New technologies are emerging as I type this article, and I need to stay on top of the game. I don’t quite know which language I’ll be studying, but I’m sure I’ll find something.
And finally, I plan to give back to the community by contributing to more and more open-source projects. It’s a good way for me to practice my skills in the field, and I just feel cool knowing that my code is being used by people around the world.
Coding with Jaeheon Shim Goals
Of course, I can’t forget about the blog I started in late 2019. Coding with Jaeheon Shim is a place for me to share my thoughts and creations, and I plan to grow this website into a community of programmers.
I hope to have fun but also accomplish much in the year 2020, and wish everyone a happy new decade!
